Grixel is version control that doesn't flinch at a 12 GB dataset or a 2 GB model. Code and heavy binaries live in one depot, every version is kept, and you decide exactly what your AI assistants are allowed to see.
What it is
One server that holds the whole project — code, art, audio, datasets.
Grixel is Perforce-shaped rather than Git-shaped: one authoritative server you run, workspaces that check out only the folders you need, and atomic changelists that save code and assets together as a single point in time.
It keeps every version of every file while storing only what changed, so multi-gigabyte binaries version as comfortably as source. Run it entirely on your own hardware, or let us host it — either way a full backup moves the depot back to your machines whenever you want.
Big files
The files other tools choke on.
Most version control was built for text, so a 2 GB model or a 12 GB training set ends up loose on a shared drive with no history at all. Grixel treats those files exactly like code — versioned, diffable by revision, and lockable when two people can't safely edit at once.
History
No more final_v3_FINAL_actually.
A folder of dated copies is version control done by hand, badly. Grixel gives you one name per file with every version behind it, so restoring last Tuesday's build or comparing two points in time is a single command rather than an archaeology dig.
AI control
Your assistant sees what you allow — nothing else exists.
Assistants read the project through a controlled window, filtered by the same access rules as the person they work for. A path an assistant may not read isn't greyed out or refused: it's absent — not in listings, not in search, and asking for it by name looks exactly like asking for something that never existed.
Provenance
Know what the agent actually changed.
You asked it to fix one thing — what else did it touch? Every change records who or what made it, including which tool and model, and what it was shown at the time. Read it back, and undo any of it.
Review
Sign-off that lives in the depot.
Review stages, automated checks and promotion gates are part of the server, not a separate service bolted on top. Work moves forward when the right people have signed it off, and the same rules apply whether a human or an agent submitted it.
Privacy
Work that can't leave the building.
Client work under NDA, an unannounced title, regulated designs. Grixel is one small server on a machine you own — an office box, a NAS, a rack in the corner. Your files sit on your disk, under your backups, under your rules.
